Outplacement: Supporting Your Employees’ Career Transition

What is Outplacement?

Outplacement provides support to employees transitioning out of their current roles—whether voluntarily or involuntarily—by facilitating their return to the job market.

At Rheinbrücke Consulting, we offer outplacement services throughout Strasbourg and the Grand Est region. Our mission is to help employees leverage their skills and explore new opportunities, ensuring a swift, successful, and fulfilling reentry into the workforce.

Introduced in the 1980s in the U.S., outplacement has become more recognized in France. But what does it involve? How is the process carried out? What benefits does it offer to both companies and employees? Rheinbrücke Consulting is here to guide you through understanding and implementing outplacement services in the Grand Est.

When Should You Use Outplacement?

Outplacement: An External Support Tool

Outplacement assists employees with career transitions, whether due to negotiated departures, mutual agreements, individual or collective dismissals, or employment protection plans (PSE).

While not mandatory, it becomes required for collective dismissals involving more than 10 employees, forming part of the outplacement cell for all affected employees.

Facilitating Job Searches Through Outplacement.

The aim of outplacement is to help employees quickly find a new role that fits their skills.

Our consultancy supports employees in their career mobility while respecting their employability and career goals. We provide tailored tools, resources, and training to help employees understand their strengths, navigate the job market, define their career objectives, and enhance their job search.

How Does Outplacement Work?

Outplacement involves comprehensive support from a consultant through a structured four-step process:

Assessment:

The consultant helps the employee evaluate their skills, experiences, and career goals to understand their strengths and aspirations.

Career Planning:

Based on the assessment, the consultant assists the employee in creating a career plan that aligns with their skills and goals, which may include job searching, training, or career change.

The documentation phase

It consists of researching information on the jobs identified, analyzing the market and its prospects, and targeting
initial vacancies.

Action Planning:

This includes training on job search techniques, CV and cover letter writing, and candidate promotion. Additional coaching may be provided for application preparation, contract negotiation, or networking.

The duration and scope of outplacement services can vary. They may be time-limited with no guarantee of results or extended until the employee secures a new role.

For individual outplacement, employees should research options and choose a provider with their employer’s agreement. In collective outplacement, employees work with the provider selected by their company.

Cost of Outplacement in Strasbourg

The cost of outplacement services varies depending on factors such as the service scope, job search complexity, and the number of employees involved.

Typically, the cost is negotiated between the employee and employer and outlined in the separation agreement. For collective dismissals, costs are set by the outplacement cell.

Employees may also opt for private outplacement services at their own expense.

Benefits of Outplacement Services

Outplacement offers numerous advantages for both employers and employees:

Amicale agreement: Provides a supportive solution for employees transitioning out, whether due to conflict or economic reasons.

Tailored Support:

Personalized assistance to meet individual needs.

Faster Job Placement: Accelerated by the consultant’s expertise and knowledge of the job market.

Specialized Training: Focused on effective job search strategies.
